The Magic Butterfly lazily glided along the air currents, and gracefully landed on Ness's ear. Its wings fluttered gently against his hair and it took a step or two before taking off into the sky and being lifted away by a gust of breeze. Ness sighed and smiled, feeling the relaxation flood through him. He glanced over at Paula, Jeff, and Poo lying in the grass next to him. It was Paula who suggested they spend the day looking at the colors of the fall leaves.

“What does that?” Ness wondered aloud.

Paula her eye and glanced over at him, using her hand to shade her face from the sun, “What does what?”

Ness nodded up in the direction the butterfly had flewn, “What makes the butterflies relaxing? I mean, all of us have felt it, it can’t just be nothing.”

Without opening his eyes or shifting an inch, Poo said, “Maybe they’re called ‘Magic Butterflies’ for a reason.”

The three of them stopped and pondered this for a second, breathing in the crisp fall air. They had been renovating the shack Ness had purchased in their journey that hadn't been so long ago. They had finished repairing the wall, and were taking a break. Paula stired a bit, and laid back.

She smirked a bit, “Don’t mind Poo, he’s just grumpy cause you interrupted his meditation.”

A corner of Poo’s mouth lifted, “I’m not grumpy. I’m pensive.”

Jeff rolled over onto his stomach, “You know, he has a point.”

“You don’t think he’s grumpy either?” Paula laughed a bit. The other three joined her until Jeff cut in.

“No, no, I mean what Ness said. It can’t just be magic. There’s no such thing.”

Ness sat up, “Oh yeah, just like there’s no such thing as evil forces from outer space who try to take over Earth.” He stuck his tongue out at Jeff and winked.

Jeff shook his head a bit, “Really, now that we’re safe, I’ve been looking for something to do. I mean, we can’t just lay in the grass all day. I think I’ll look into it.”

Ness shruged, "We just got done building a wall, and you're already ready to jump head-first into science?"

Jeff chuckled a bit, "Well, I'm curious, and I need to know... you gotta understand... I mean-"

Paula shrugged, “Alright, Jeff. You go catch butterflies and pretend it’s for science.” They dissolved into laughter again and Jeff flopped back into the grass.

“You know, I think I will.”
